Specific educational requirements in the profession of a dental technician
Psycho-physical requirements proper for the profession:
- independence,
- spatial imagination,
- perceptiveness,
- memory: sight and reconstructive,
- complete perception of colours and hues,
- ability to concentrate and divisibility of attention,
- sense of aesthetics,
- patience and perseverance,
- sense of duty and discipline,
- manual skills, meticulousness and precision,
- conscientiousness and responsibility,
- readiness to help,
- respect of other peoples' dignity.
The graduate of dental technique college should be prepared to perform the following tasks:
- preparing diagnostic models and die models of maxilla and mandible with the use of impressions made by the dentist, as well as their articulation,
- realizing technological procedures of laboratory production of dentures, orthodontic appliances and splints, obturators and epitez used in rehabilitation of the masticatory organ,
- carrying out the repairs of dental restorations and orthodontic appliances,
- carrying out works according to the clinical project.
The graduate of a dental technique college can work in:
- prosthetic laboratories,
- orthodontic laboratories.
Description of graduate's qualifications
The graduate is supposed to know how to:
- use the knowledge in the field of anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the masticatory organ
- define basic morphological and functional features of stomatognathic system, in particular: types of bite, participation of teeth in the process of articulation, traumatic occlusion, structure and function of temporomadibular joint
- explain the structure and function of articulators
- modify work methods during realisation of professional tasks
- define types of dentition and types of permanent and deciduous teeth and in their mutual configuration
- describe theories and methods of artificial teeth positioning in complete dentures
- describe prophylactic, therapeutic and remedial effect of dentures
- evaluate performed task at the clinical and laboratory stage
- bring to perfection the quality of manufactured works
- predict the consequences of faulty manufactured prosthetic work
- differentiate the types and properties of basic and auxiliary materials used in dental technique
- keep the requirements concerning utilization, storing and rational management of materials used in dental technique and orthodontics
- characterize and evaluate influence of basic materials on tissues and human body
- design prosthetic constructions, analyze and evaluate produced project
- use equipment and specialist apparatus
- evaluate impressions and produce gypsum model casts on their basis
- produce individual impression trays made from different materials used in implant-prosthetics, dental prosthetics and orthodontics
- prepare occlusal rims
- fix dies on articulators
- form crowns, dentures, orthodontic appliances and splints;
- exchange wax into acrylic
- machine and polish acrylic
- machine and chemically and thermally treat metal alloys used in dental technique
- bend wire elements for dentures and orthodontic appliances
- produce precise alloy casts of dental restorations and elements for dental restorations
- repair dental restorations and orthodontic appliances
- keep records of produced dental works along with settling of accounts of used material and costs of workmanship
- use terminology applied in dentistry
- obey industrial safety laws, fire regulations, environmental protection laws
- comply with asepsis and antisepsis rules, particularly in the situations of increased epidemiological hazard (HIV, Viral hepatitis)
- organize workstation according to ergonomics
- co-work with dental team
- use different sources of information and perfect own professional skills
- use modern information techniques, use system and specialist software
- give first aid
- proceed according to ethics
- apply regulations concerning done professional tasks
- apply regulations concerning business activity.
