Range of knowledge and skills proper for the qualifications in the profession

The graduate is supposed to know how to:

1. Read with understanding information presented in the form of descriptions, instructions, drawings, sketches, diagrams, technical and technological records, in particular:

  • use the knowledge in the field of dentistry and orthodontics and anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the masticatory organ;
  • define basic morphological and functional features of stomatognathic system;
  • recognize types dentitions and forms of permanent and deciduous teeth;
  • describe the condition of oral cavity based on clinical symptoms of stomatopathy;
  • describe theories and methods of artificial teeth positioning in complete dentures, justifying therapeutic and remedial effect of dentures;
  • define ways of preventing periodontal diseases and unfavourable changes in stomatognathic system;
  • define the technological process of producing fixed and removable dentures and orthodontic appliances;
  • explain the relationship between a faulty produced denture and disorder or pathological condition caused by it;
  • distinguish types and properties of basic and auxiliary materials, equipment and specialist apparatus used in dental technique and orthodontics, and use them appropriately.

2. Process figures and operational data, in particular:

  • list the differences in morphology of permanent and deciduous teeth in their mutual configuration;
  • list relationship between periodontal diseases and changes in stomatognathic system;
  • present direct relationship between a planned dental restoration or orthodontic appliance and build and functions of a masticatory system;
  • choose basic and auxiliary materials, equipment and specialist apparatus necessary for a given technique used in production of prosthetic or orthodontic work;
  • describe advantages and disadvantages of methods and techniques used in production of fixed and removable dentures, as well as orthodontic appliances;
  • evaluate costs of materials, medicine and prosthetic services;
  • describe rules of co-operation with the dental team and communication with the patient.

3. Perform professional task safely according to safety regulations, fire-control regulations and environmental regulations, in particular:

  • obey sanitary regulations, safety regulations,  fire regulations, environmental protection laws and ergonomics applied in dental surgeries;
  • distinguish types and properties of materials and protection equipment used for personal protection in dentistry and orthodontics;
  • predict hazards in dental technique and orthodontics;
  • comply with asepsis and antisepsis rules;
  • show the ways to give first aid.

 

Scope of information and skills connected with employment and business activity

The graduate should be able to:

1. Read with understanding information presented in the form of descriptions, diagrams, instructions, tables, in particular:

  • distinguish basic terms related to economy and labour law, tax law and regulations concerning business activity;
  • distinguish documents related to employment and taking up and running a business activity;
  • identify and analyze information concerning requirements and rights of an employee, employer, unemployed and client.


2. Process figures and operational data, in particular:

  • analyze information concerning extending qualifications, seeking work and employment, as well as taking up and running a business activity;
  • prepare documents connected with seeking work and employment, as well as taking up and running a business activity;
  • distinguish results of starting and termination of a job.

The graduate should be able to:

  • analyze medical records along with patient's records and organisational and technical conditions to establish works in the field of dental technique and orthodontics;
  • choose basic and auxiliary materials to the type and scope of prosthetic and orthodontic works;
  • choose methods and techniques of producing works in the field of dental technique and orthodontics;
  • choose tools, equipment and specialist apparatus to the type and scope of prosthetic and orthodontic works;
  • prepare in the form of a block diagram a project of the process in the field of dental technique and orthodontics taking into consideration the results of records analysis;
  • perform work in the field of dental technique and orthodontics in given organisational and technical conditions, complying with sanitary, safety and fire-control regulations, as well as with accounting for used materials;
  • evaluate the quality of prosthetic and orthodontic works.
